b) The advantages of using TimeToast for this activity:
Students felt curious about the fact of using a new program and found it interesting in order to summarize what they read in a different way. It is a useful tool and easy to get used to it.
As we were working with different important women in history, they concentrate on the most significant facts.
c) The steps you followed to set up the activity:
First of all a brief presentation of the Women’s Day (I got advantage of celebration of the 8th March) and decide to present some general knowledge about the importance of these women in our past and recent history. Then, I exposed what the activity consisted of (reading some web pages and summarize the information contained), and finally, which tool was going to be used and how it worked doing myself the first example.
d) Any problems and how you and the students solved them:
All the problems we had to deal with were related to a bad working of the Internet connection available in our high school; that’s why we spent more time than provided. Apart form this, the students’ attitude was fantastic.
e) The students’ reaction – how did they feel about using TimeToast to complete the task?
The students were willing to learn and felt motivated with this new activity. They don’t enjoy writing very much, so through the internet platform and using online dictionaries, the task was easier and, above all, funnier to them.
f) Some things that you would change / improve next time:
Next time, I will probably correct the texts to be posted before adding them to Timeline, as I have found many grammar mistakes. Nevertheless, I consider these errors part of the learning process (and many of them the result of not paying attention to what they are doing).
g) At least 3 ways that the use of TimeToast helped you achieve your learning objectives:
The use of the English language as communicative tool.
It helps to select information and specify it in an accurate way.
Facts and figures are attractive to the reader and it cuts straight to the point.
The organization of “TimeToast” may help them to organize their writtings better in a near future.
