Genially Activity

Some thoughts after using Genially in class:

Taking into account this was the first time for me (and my students) using Genially, I must say it was not as user-friendly as we thought it would be at the very beginning, when we had a look at the app; that's why we needed to do an accurate planning in order to define every stage which would be followed not to make many mistakes and get the most out of Genially.

The plan consisted on three different sessions before the oral presentation itself. In Stage 1, the group was established and the topic chosen; the activity was developed in 2º Bachillerato (second language) and since it is a small group formed by seven students we only did one group, dividing into sections their work. An idea came to my mind and after a short debate we thought about creating a TV show where everyone had their own part as a presenter (international and national news, sports, weather forecast, society, entertainment, etc.). In Stage 2 and 3, we started to work with the tool Genially (the modality used "Video Presentation") and found it more difficult than it seemed to be. Perhaps, we all expected an "as easy as pie" and intuitive programme and did not know that the internet connection in high school was not going to work as expected as well.

It has been a real pleasure working with this group in particular as decisions were taken building consensus for fundamental changes, contributions or input. They always worked closely to finalize the first draft and made an effort to meet the deadline established before; working hand in had with them, sharing their ideas and doubts and fostering their curiosity was a challenge to me.

Related to the additional materials used, they decided to create from scratch every piece of news included in their oral presentation, so they used their imagination to devise the whole project and apart from images, music and videos from the net and the dictionary or the handouts given in class throughout the school year, the rest was of their own and exclusively made for this task using Genially.

In addition, my students, who next year will be at university, consider that this tool could be a good one to make different types of presentations (original and flexible as well, as it is not the typical "PowerPoint"); once they have understood how this tool works and have taken advantage of it, their learning was optimised and the experience much more positive than before. Finally, they achieved the objectives proposed and are eager to learn and use Genially again.

I'm sure this won't be my (and their) last time with Genially, another way to empower and inspire our own teaching practice  ;)

This is the link of the project itself (it has music as well! don't forget to connect it):

Finally, here you can see some pictures of the presentation. We had a funny time!

  1. Hello, MissMMar!
I've been browsing your blog posts and it certainly seems a strong start. Although it is clear that the blog was created for the purposes of the Course we are currently enrolled in, your posts are well-explained and interesting. What'smore, the results of your students' hard work with ICT proves that you are a committed teacher.
    Keep adding content like this!

  2. Hello María del Mar!
I've just visited your blog so as to do the 6.4 task and I have discovered that you did a great job. I love the layout of your blog and the way you explain the different activities you have carried out.
The only that I would change is changing the appearance so pictures of your blog entries appear even when we are on the home page. Apart from that, I think that you have worked a lot and I love your posts.
    Congratulations!
